Bergren Forum: Jeff Sluyter-Beltrão
Encounters on the Roads to and around Istanbul
Jeff Sluyter-Beltrão will explore some experiences from his sabbatical, most of which he spent in Türkiye. Wrapped around a brief interpretation of Turkish president Erdogan’s enduring “populist” appeal, Jeff will share sights, experiences and takeaways from travels across western Europe and beyond, to Türkiye and Tunisia, with a primary focus on his extended stay in the incomparable city of Istanbul. What might have inspired Napoleon to say, “If the world were a single state, its capital would be Istanbul”?
